What happens when you commit

Git history can get squashed or rewritten. Signatures stick to the code itself.

Sign code on commit

A pre-commit hook signs the code you push to GitHub. Move it, fork it, or rename the file. The signature still remains.

Claim the repo

The first signed repo blocks anyone else from attaching a new repo signature until that first signature is removed.

Open the honor board

Shift + D shows who did the most signed work, measured out of 100. Solo builders usually land at 100. Unsigned files stay listed. Source never shows on the board.

What you actually touch

Once after install. After that, signing stays in the background.

01 Download and install +
  • Get the latest Windows build from Installer Releases.
  • Run the NSIS installer. It installs the desk app, the CLI, and global git hooks. Node.js 18+ is required.
02 Link GitHub +
  • Click Ink your GitHub. Approve the device in the browser.
  • Keypair is generated on your machine. Only the public half reaches the registry. One GitHub per device.
03 Shape your marks +
  • Open Autograph. Set mark text, handwriting style, and an optional chip. Save a separate repo mark for projects you own.
  • Marks live in your registry profile, not inside your source files.
04 Commit as usual +
  • pre-commit signs staged files and refreshes the overlay report.
  • pre-push publishes fingerprints. Commit dev-autographs-boot.js and dev-autographs.report.json with the rest of your push.
  • Press Shift + D on the deployed site to open the honor board.
